Observations:
In observing Mr. Johnson, (at South Kingstown High) I found a few of his class policies that followed alongside his class. When asked about his policies, he mentioned that he tends to follow the school’s handbook regarding discipline. He did have a clear respect policy, well known when within observing the class wherein he expected the class to respect each other and himself, wherever they went. Within the lab of course, there were fairly strict policies regarding “horseplay”, which is understandable. At one point, a particular student within his biology B class would not sit still, and kept wandering between lab benches.
It was interesting to watch his demeanor change as he went from a highly motivated class to a highly un-motivated class, (biology B) since it changed so drastically. A few of the students here were very rude to him, and he did not tolerate it, and promptly corrected the behavior before the rest of the class could catch on. I am curious to watch and see how he changes his lessons from Biology A classes to Biology B classes over time.
At one point in the afternoon, there was a mis-schedule in his lab-time. (They go to a separate room for their labs) He had a plan B! I have always heard from my education teachers that it is good to have a plan B, which he did, and it worked beautifully, and the students were very involved. He read “The Lorax” by Dr. Seuss, which was quite appropriate, since he has been trying to get students to be aware of their impact upon the environment. I myself enjoyed listening!

Reflection:
I highly enjoyed watching his classes. Jeff Johnson is a bit scatterbrained, kind-of clumsy, and not very organized. (He said this of himself!) However, he is quite brilliant and really loves to learn about science; even conducting his own mini-research on fruit flies with the students and making posters with them about it. I am very curious as to which classes he will set for me to teach, as he teaches two Biology A classes, a Biology B class, and a biotechnology class. Though his amazing teaching is a lot to live up to, I cannot wait to get more involved within this classroom!
